About Hair Extensions And Suitability

  • Are Luxy Hair extensions single drawn and what does that mean?

Yes, Luxy Hair extensions are made from single drawn human hair. This is one of the most natural-looking types of extensions as it mimics your natural hair the best. Single drawn hair has a standard hair ratio where the hair contains a combination of varied hair lengths and does not undergo an additional sorting process to pick out shorter hairs. The hair is thick at the top and tapers off at the bottom, similar to how natural hair grows.

  • Can I use purple shampoo on my extensions?

Although many of our customers have used color depositing shampoos/conditioners/products with much success, we always recommend having a professional hair colorist who has had experience with extensions custom tone your Luxies using a professional toner.

Please keep in mind that purple shampoo will balance out the golden undertones from the Ash Blonde and Bleach Blonde shades and make it cooler, however, depending on your tone of blonde, this may not be the best alternative to making your extensions match better to your hair color. Since there are many different variations of cool-toned blonde shades, this is why we recommend having your set professionally toned to achieve a more seamless match.

Also, we don’t recommend purple shampooing the Dirty Blonde shade as it will most likely not create a fully cool-toned medium blonde color. Instead, it may remove some of the brassiness. If you are looking for a dramatic difference, we recommend having this shade professionally toned.

  • Can I color, tone, or bleach my hair extensions?

So, you have a beautiful and unique hair color that doesn't quite match any of the shades we offer. No stress! Luxy Hair extensions are made of 100% remy human hair and can, therefore, be dyed a darker color or toned by a professional hair colorist.

So what does remy human hair mean?

Remy hair is considered to be the finest quality of human hair because the cuticles are kept intact and not stripped, like in most other non-remy hair extensions. Preserving the hairs’ cuticles and aligning them in a unidirectional fashion creates extensions that are completely natural in appearance. This process ensures that the hair remains super soft, shiny, silky and completely tangle-free throughout its lifetime.

Luxy Hair extensions use only the finest quality of remy human hair, which means that the hair has been carefully sorted after collecting from the hair donor to ensure all the cuticles are of the same length. It is by far the best quality of clip in human hair extensions on the market because of the care that is required and the time it takes to sort the hair so meticulously. What's the best way to color my extensions?

Being super careful with how your hair extensions are dyed is very important to ensuring the quality of your set is preserved. Naturally, dyeing or toning hair extensions can alter the quality of the set slightly, however, we'll provide you with the most important do's and don't's of dyeing your extensions to ensure your set lives a long and healthy life.

Kindly note, since our Seamless extensions are made with silicone at the base to ensure that they are thin and flat, this material does not take to dye. If you dye your Seamless extensions, the silicone strip will remain its original color after dyeing. Alternatively, our Classic extensions have a fabric base which can be dyed as it will take to the color.

    Do's

    • Always do a test strand prior to dyeing the full set
To do this, mix some of the color and apply it to a small section on one of the one-clip wefts. This will ensure you're satisfied with the results before moving on to the full set. If you don't like the result, you can then make adjustments to the formula or processing time and test it again.

    • Always have a professional hair colorist work on your extensions
Ideally, have someone who has had previous experience working with clip-in hair extensions to ensure the color goes as intended. We always recommend using professional-quality brands for the best results.

    • Pre-wash with sulfate & alcohol-free shampoo before coloring
Luxy Hair extensions come pre-conditioned and this silky coating needs to be removed in order for the color to absorb evenly. Plug your sink and fill it up with lukewarm water. Then, add 2-3 dollops of shampoo into the water, and swish the product around in the water so it's nice and soapy. We recommend washing your hair extensions one weft at a time (1-clip wefts can be collected into one bundle). Hold the weft with one hand at the top, submerge it into the water, and gently wash the hair. Avoid rubbing and be very careful to not tangle the hair. Once you are done, air-dry your Luxies and then you are ready for the color application!

    • Opt for a lighter set of extensions to dye darker
Instead of getting a dark set of extensions to lift/highlight to a lighter shade, we recommend that you select a lighter shade of extensions and deposit a darker dye. Similarly, if you have highlights, we recommend going for a shade that matches the lightest highlight in your hair and having a professional hair colorist add in lowlights to your set.

    • Always use a semi or demi-permanent color and a low volume developer
These dyes are the least invasive and will achieve the same color effect without damaging your extensions. We recommend using a 10 volume developer as it will only deposit color and not lift the hair which can change its integrity.

    • Always apply the color to both sides of the weft and in one direction
Doing this will ensure thorough saturation and that the result is even and not patchy. Remember, it's always better to use more color than far too little. When applying the color, only apply it in a downwards direction. Start from the base of the weft moving downwards towards the ends, following the natural fall of the hair. Applying the color upwards can damage your extensions, and will likely leave them frizzy and tangled.

    • Maintain a moisturizing care schedule
It's always important to keep the hair moisturized, however, color-treated hair will need extra care. We recommend doing a sulfate-free deep conditioning treatment on the extensions after dyeing to ensure that any lost moisture and nourishment is added back into the hair. If possible, leave this on overnight for the best results. We also recommend deep conditioning your Luxies bi-weekly (or as needed) and using products that are specifically formulated for dry and damaged hair, as they will help keep the strands healthy and nourished. Also, look for products that add moisture to the hair like argan oil, coconut oil, castor oil and so on.

      Don't's

        • Dye the entire set altogether
This can cause tangling and it also means that you have less control over the dye deposit. Dye one weft at a time so you have complete control over the outcome.

        • Use any bleach (this includes highlights)
We do not recommend bleaching your Luxies as they have already been dyed at our manufacture, and forcing bleach on hair that has already been dyed can be difficult. Bleaching is a damaging process that will alter the quality and integrity of your set. Increasing the concentration of bleach or leaving it in longer to soak will only lead to damaged hair.

        • Use products that contain sulfates or alcohol
These ingredients strip the hair of its natural oils and will affect their integrity. This, in turn, makes the hair drier and more prone to tangling or matting. Another downside is that these products will fade your hair color quicker. Always be sure to check the ingredient listing on the back of the product to ensure you don’t see the words: SLS, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Alcohol denat, Ethanol, SD alcohol 40, Propanol, Isopropyl, and Propyl.
        • Try to dye them yourself at home or use over-the-counter dyes/toners
Taking the extra step to have a professional work on your extensions will be a worthwhile investment. A boxed hair dye from a drugstore won't give you the option to choose the developer and that is exactly what you don't want. The ratio of peroxide to pigment requires a specific balance. Doing this incorrectly can very easily leave hair dry and damaged if not done correctly.

        • Over-wash them
We don't advice washing colored extensions often as this can strip the hair of its oils and will actually cause the hair color to fade faster. Keep in mind, lighter pastel colors will typically wash out a lot easier than a darker auburn shade.

        • Apply purple shampoo directly to the hair
This can create patchiness and tangling and because certain areas of hair will soak up more of the shampoo which will cause staining and patchiness. We always recommend having a professional hairstylist tone your Luxies with a professional toner to prevent any unwanted results. If you wanted to do it yourself with purple shampoo, we recommend testing a one-clip weft to see how ashy the result will be. Keep in mind purple shampoo won't give you a dramatic ashy color like a toner will if you are toning our Dirty Blonde shade for example. First, dilute the shampoo in a bowl of warm water and run each weft through one by one.

Can I return/exchange them if I'm not happy with the end result?

Kindly note, dyeing or toning your hair extensions may alter the structure of the hair, resulting in a lowered lifespan. Dyeing and toning Luxy Hair extensions is done at the customer's discretion. Although many of our customers have used these products with lots of success, we are not responsible and can not accept any returns or exchanges on hair extensions that have been treated with dye, toner, or any color depositing shampoos/conditioners/products. Also, we will be unable to provide an exchange or refund for sets that have been damaged due to bleaching

      • Do hair extensions shed and tangle?

        Do clip-in hair extensions shed?

Just like your natural hair, extensions will shed. Shedding is a common occurrence with hair extensions and because they are made of human hair, you can expect some shedding throughout their lifespan. As you brush and style your Luxies, some fall-out may occur so don’t be surprised or worried when this happens. This, however, does not mean to reduce the amount you brush your extensions as you can minimize shedding in other ways. Keep in mind, extensions are more likely to shed when they are dry and brittle.

        Do they tangle?

Matting and tangling is a normal occurrence with not just your natural hair but with all types of hair extensions. This can happen due to a lack of constant brushing, weather, or dryness. A common reason why extensions tangle and get matted throughout the day is because of a combination of sweat, heat, and friction. Also, keep in mind that when human hair is constantly moving around it’s going to matt or ‘clump’ together in pieces.

If you aren’t brushing your hair consistently, you’re giving the hair the opportunity to matt and tangle. During the day, we generate heat at the nape of our neck and scalp, and often times we sweat back there too. Your sweat is salty, acidic and can dry out your hair extensions. When you add additional hair volume to this combination and constantly move your head throughout the day, tangling and matting will occur. Weather can also contribute to tangling, whether it be due to the wind, humidity or heat. Humidity will add a lot of moisture to the environment which will cause your hair to frizz up and tangle. Heat will do just the opposite as it will dry it out.

How do you prevent tangling and reduce shedding?

Thankfully, there are some simple ways to reduce shedding and ensure that your hair extensions remain smooth and tangle-free. To learn more, please click here.

      • How do you prevent tangling/matting and reduce shedding?

Thankfully, there are some simple ways to reduce shedding and ensure that your hair extensions remain smooth and tangle-free.

        Brush your hair often

The first and quite possibly one of the most important steps is to brush your extensions out before washing them and only once the hair is 90% dry. This helps minimize the possibility of breakage and shedding because the hair is at its weakest point when wet. Keep in mind it is also more susceptible to breakage when wet. Instead, use your fingers to gently loosen any tangles. Always gently brush your extensions before and after each use to reduce shedding and breakage. This will also prolong their lifespan. You can do this by starting at the ends and making your way up to the roots.

The Loop Hair Extensions Brush is a hair extension user's dream as it is specifically designed to be used on different types of hair extensions—not just clip-in hair extensions. The brush has unique nylon “looped” bristles which easily glide through the hair and remove any tangles. Due to these looped bristles, the brush does not cause pulling, snagging, or damage to your wefts. Alternatively, you can use a wide-tooth comb or a soft bristle brush. Always have a brush in your bag, so that even when you’re out and about you can still give your hair a quick brush.

        Keep your hair extensions moisturized

Keeping your extensions moisturized and nourished is crucial, considering they don’t have a natural hydration source like your own hair does. If you are brushing your extensions throughout the day and you seem to notice dryness or some minor breakage, apply a pearl-size amount of a lightweight or water-based hair serum or a lightweight oil, like argan oil. Always ensure you apply it from the midshaft of the hair down to the ends and follow by brushing the extensions to evenly distribute the product throughout. Remember, less is more. You do not need to apply a hair oil daily, as this can cause buildup on your extensions. Instead, you apply it once a week or when you notice significant tangling and dryness.

        Use the right hair products

The proper hair products make all the difference in whether your extensions will tangle or be soft and manageable. Purchase products specifically formulated for dry and damaged hair, as they will help keep the strands healthy and nourished. Also, look for products that add moisture to the hair like argan oil, coconut oil, and castor oil. Purchasing sulfate and alcohol-free products is a necessity as they are imperative to maintain the health of your extensions. These ingredients strip the hair of its natural oils and will affect their integrity. This, in turn, makes the hair drier and more prone to tangling or matting.

        Read the ingredients list

Always be sure to do one simple thing before you buy any product - flip it over! Many products out there have sulfates and alcohol hidden in their formulas. Also, keep in mind that not all companies claiming to make sulfate-free shampoos are truly free of sulfates. Be sure to check the ingredient listing and ensure you don’t see the words: SLS, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Alcohol denat, Ethanol, SD alcohol 40, Propanol, Isopropyl, and Propyl. To learn more about what products you should avoid using, click here.

        Hydrate your hair extensions

Since your extensions don’t absorb the oils your natural hair would, you don’t have to wash them as often. As a general rule, the less you wash your extensions the longer they will last you. When washing your extensions, it's important you hydrate them as much as possible, and apply a moisturizing sulfate and alcohol-free conditioner before and after shampooing. Sometimes, you can even skip the shampoo and only co-wash your extensions with conditioner! Always be sure to rinse the extensions in cold water at the end to close cuticles and lock in moisture.

When you notice your extensions getting dry or tangled, apply a deep conditioning treatment or mask. This will hydrate and restore some moisture back into them, as well as help make them softer and more manageable to style. It’s an easy and simple process to do—all you have to do is dampen your extensions and apply a generous amount of a sulfate and alcohol-free deep conditioning treatment or conditioner to the hair, and let it soak in the product for 5-6 hours or overnight by placing it in a shower cap or a plastic bag. Rinse off as normal the next day.

Use an oil treatment on your extensions

Another way to infuse moisture back in your hair extensions is with an oil treatment, like coconut oil. First, measure out two tablespoons of coconut oil and warm it up until it melts. Then, apply it to dry hair from the mid-shaft working your way down and focusing most of the product on the ends. You can also leave this treatment on overnight for best results. In the morning, wash the extensions as normal. Keep in mind that coconut oil is very heavy so you may need to shampoo your extensions twice to get rid of all of the oil from the hair.

Handle your hair extensions with care

Improper hair care can also take a toll on your extensions. When washing, make sure to handle the extensions gently and to not rub them vigorously. After you are finished, carefully squeeze any excess water from the extensions. Never rub your extensions dry with a towel. Instead, always lay them out on a flat surface and gently pat them dry. When air drying, invest in a microfiber towel as it will remove excess water faster and it won’t rough up the hair (which can also cause tangles).

Limit heat styling and always use a heat protectant

We do not recommend blow drying your extensions after every wash as doing this constantly will make them dry and more vulnerable to breakage. If you can avoid it, we highly recommend air drying your extensions for the safest route as this will also prevent against tangles. Also, we always suggest using a heat protectant spray prior to using any heat styling tool to extend the lifespan of your hair extensions. Additionally, we recommend to only use a low heat setting of 120C/250F, as anything higher runs the risk of damaging the hair.

If you need to use your extensions immediately after washing them, the most important thing is to ensure that you are using a cool setting to prevent any heat damage and that you don’t brush the hair until the hair is 90% dry. When blow drying, start by focusing on drying the root of the weft first and then working your way down to the ends. Always blow-dry downwards as this will help to not only smooth the cuticle but it will also prevent the hair from getting tangled since it is being blown in lots of different directions.

Limit the use of heavy hair products

Limiting the number of products you apply to the hair will help with tangling. Using sticky products such as hairspray, hair gel, or hair wax, can and likely will clog up your extensions. The more products you use, the more you will need to wash your extensions, leading to dry, tangled extensions. Also, keep in mind that any products that you use on your natural hair can transfer onto your extensions.

Your extensions have a beautiful, healthy finish already so you shouldn’t need much product to enjoy them. If you want more hold when curling your extensions, try pinning up the curls and leaving them overnight or even just for an hour to ensure the curls stay in place without the use of hairspray. If you do want to reach for hairspray, consider a lightweight formula which you can still easily brush through. Extra strength hair sprays will clog up your extensions, which means more washing.

Store your clip-in hair extensions neatly

Starting a good storage routine from the moment you start wearing your new extensions is crucial as it will prevent tangling and matting in the future. Always ensure that you brush your extensions before and after each use. Interested in learning about the best way to store your Luxies? Click here to find out more!

Remove your clip-in hair extensions before sleeping

Clip-in hair extensions should always be removed before sleeping, as they can get extremely tangled throughout the night if worn to bed. Since they only take a few minutes to clip in, and seconds to remove, removing them daily will maintain the integrity of the hair. You can store your hair extensions in the Luxy Hair Extensions Carrier, or, neatly coil them and store them in an airtight shoebox or container.

Do not swim with hair extensions in

One of the most important things to keep in mind when wearing hair extensions is to not wear them while swimming or taking a shower.

You can definitely wear them to the beach or by the pool, however, we do not recommend getting into the water with them (unless your hair is tied up and will not get wet).

Have you ever noticed how dry and tangled your natural hair feels after swimming in a chlorinated pool or salt water? Chlorine from swimming pools, salt from ocean water, and dirt in all bodies of water can be damaging to your hair extensions. Also, swimming with your extensions clipped in may lead to the extensions tangling with your natural hair, which can be damaging.

Avoid working out with your hair extensions in

Avoid doing any physical activity that could lead to excessive sweat, when you are wearing hair extensions. Remember, your sweat is salty, acidic and can dry out your hair extensions so this could lead to additional matting and tangling, causing your hair extensions to deteriorate faster. To increase the lifespan of your extensions, try to minimize their exposure to sweat. Instead, be sure to un-clip them before heading to the gym!

If only you could see the two colors in person to feel absolutely confident with your purchase! We're now happy to offer a maximum of two color sample swatches to our customers within the U.S. and Canada for a flat rate of $10 (shipping only). Dreams do come true.

      • What lengths do you offer, and what do they look like on?

Luxy Hair extensions are available in our new 16" Classic collection, as well as our standard 20" Classic & Seamless collections. We also offer a longer length in our 24" Seamless Blonde Balayage set.

Why do they look longer on some people and shorter on others?

Great question! This is because Luxy Hair extensions will appear different in length on every person, as we all have different torso lengths. If you have a longer torso or are quite tall, Luxies will appear shorter on you. If you are more petite or have a shorter torso, Luxies will appear longer on you.

How long will Luxy Hair extensions be on me?

In order to determine how long Luxies will be on you, we recommend measuring either 16 inches or 20 inches down from the top of your ear with a measuring tape, as most wefts will be applied around the crown of your head.

What if Luxy Hair extensions are too long on me?

Since Luxies are made of 100% remy human hair, they can be cut or trimmed to any desired length by an experienced hair stylist if you are interested in a shorter length. If you decide to get them cut, we recommend having them already clipped into your hair during the haircut. We also recommend coming up with a numbering system for the wefts, so that you know exactly where each weft is supposed to be clipped in for the future uses.

What if I want a longer length?

If you have medium blonde hair, you can opt for our exclusive 24" Seamless Blonde Balayage set. At this time, Luxy Hair does not offer a longer length collection, however, we are always open to feedback. Should you be interested in a length, color, or other option for hair extensions that we don't currently carry, kindly send us an email at info@luxyhair.com, and we'll be happy to keep your suggestion in mind for future product considerations.

      • Luxy Hair Color Guide: How do I choose the right color of hair extensions?

Luxy Hair extensions are offered in 20 beautiful colors ranging from Jet Black to Platinum Blonde, and from Ombre to Balayage. Our extensions are made with a multi-tonal adapt coloring system, which means that there are subtle highlights and lowlights, lighter strands and darker strands throughout each set. This gives the shades movement, dimension, and depth. It also ensures that the extensions blend with your natural hair even if your hair color is a few shades off.

Below is a comparison guide that shows the level and undertone of each of our Luxy Hair colors. It also offers a general comparison to popular hair dyes on the market.

Disclaimer: We do not guarantee an exact match when dyeing your hair to match your Luxies. Applying a certain hair dye can yield different results depending on the starting color of someone's hair (and other factors). We recommend having the extensions dyed by a professional. If, however, you choose to do it yourself, a test strand is always recommended.

      • What is the level and undertone of all of your extension colors?

Below is a comparison guide that shows the level and undertone of each of our Luxy Hair colors. It also offers a general comparison to popular hair dyes on the market.

Disclaimer: We do not guarantee an exact match when dyeing your hair to match your Luxies. Applying a certain hair dye can yield different results depending on the starting color of someone's hair (and other factors). We recommend having the extensions dyed by a professional. If, however, you choose to do it yourself, a test strand is always recommended.

      • How do I choose the right color of Balayage extensions?

        What is Balayage?

Balayage means to "paint" or "sweep"— it's a dyeing process that results in natural-looking highlights. There is no clear fade line between the darker and lighter colors like with our Ombre shades. As well, darker pieces are left at the bottom to give the hair that extra depth and dimension.

Do I need to have Balayage or highlights in my hair?

No, your hair can be a solid shade! Balayage extensions are a damage-free way to add sun-kissed dimension to your hair.

How do I match my hair to the right shade?

In order for your Luxy Hair Seamless Balayage extensions to blend, we recommend ensuring that your hair matches the root color of the extensions. To determine the right match for you, please read below.

          Have Questions?

I have Ombre/highlights in my hair. Can I still wear Balayage?

Yes. Balayage extensions will blend even if you have ombre or highlights in your hair. If you have ombre, the Balayage extensions will add more color and dimension higher up. If you have highlights, the Balayage extensions will add more color towards the ends.

What if I have short hair?

Our Seamless Blonde Balayage Luxies will work for those with a fine hair type and a small amount of hair. For best results, your hair should be about 6-7 inches in length for the extensions to blend naturally (that's about shoulder length). For those with a blunt/lob haircut or an average-thick hair type, you will need to opt for our 220g Classic set.

        • How do I choose the right color of Ombre extensions?

          What is Ombre?

Ombré is a French word, which means "shadow"—it's a process that dyes the hair in a gradation from dark to light. The outcome is usually darker hair from the roots to the mid-shaft and a transition to a lighter color from the mid-shaft through to the ends. With Ombré, there is a noticeable color blocking from dark to light, with a smooth transition in between. This technique is meant to look like the hair has been dip-dyed.

How do I match my hair to the right shade?

            FAQ

I have a solid hair color. Can I still wear Ombre?

Yes, your hair can be a solid shade! Ombre extensions are a damage-free way to add brightness to your hair color.

Can I wear Ombre if I have highlighted hair?

We recommend opting for one of our 4 Balayage shades to further accentuate your highlights.

Will it blend if I have short hair?

Yes - we recommend that your hair is at least 9 inches or shorter and that your hair color is a solid shade from root to end. This is because the transition of the Ombre starts 9 inches down the length of each weft. If you have lighter pieces, the extensions will be noticeable and hard to blend.

If you have fine hair and not a lot of it, opt for our 160g set. For those with a blunt haircut/lob or an average - thick hair type, opt for our 200g set.

This is because you will need the extra hair and wefts to achieve a natural transition where your real hair ends and the extensions begin. If you choose a set that is too thin for your hair, the ends will look stringy and unnatural.

Will it blend if I have thick and long hair?

Yes - our Ombre extensions will look like subtle highlights in your hair instead of a noticeable color blocking at the ends.

          • What does Remy mean?

Remy hair is considered to be the finest quality of human hair because the cuticles are kept intact and not stripped, like in most other non-remy hair extensions. Preserving the hairs’ cuticles and aligning them in a unidirectional fashion creates extensions that are completely natural in appearance. This process ensures that the hair remains super soft, shiny, silky and completely tangle-free throughout its lifetime.

          • Which human hair is the best?

Remy human hair is the best hair to use for clip-in hair extensions, as it’s the highest grade of real, human hair and achieves the most natural look because the cuticles are kept intact and not stripped, like in most other non-remy hair extensions.

          • Do hair extensions work for thin hair?

Yes, hair extensions are a great way for adding thickness to thin and fine hair, without causing any damage to your natural hair or hindering hair growth in the meantime.

Our 120g Classic set is ideal for fine hair types and those with a small amount of hair, as it’s our lightest weight. If you are looking for an extra voluminous look, you may consider opting for our 160g Classic set or our 180g Seamless set.

          • Can clip-in hair extensions damage your hair?

No, clip-in hair extensions are a very safe way to achieve longer and fuller hair, as it’s a temporary solution that is applied and removed daily from your hair.

          • What hair extensions are best for your hair?

Clip-in hair extensions are best for your hair, as it is a temporary solution to longer and fuller hair. The clips are applied to the roots of your hair and do not cause any damage or hinder hair growth during wear, unlike other hair extension alternatives.

          • I have short hair. Which set should I pick?
Clip-in hair extensions are a great resource for short haired ladies who either got a haircut they regret, have difficulty growing out their own natural hair, or just want to have the option to rock both long and short hair whenever they want.

As a kind reminder, we recommend for your hair to be at least 6-7 inches (this is around shoulder length) in order for clip-in hair extensions to blend naturally. If your hair is any shorter, you may experience some trouble with hiding the wefts in your hair.

So, which set should I pick?

Which set you opt for will largely depend on your hair thickness, however, generally speaking, we always recommend to opt for one of our heavier sets. Why? This will help ensure that there are enough wefts and hair to create a seamless and natural transition where your real hair ends and the extensions begin. Otherwise, opting for a set too lightweight will result in the extensions appearing stringy or unnatural looking – like below. This is, arguably, every girl's nightmare.

If you have short and fine hair...

If you have short and fine hair (both in strands and in amount) you should opt for:

If you have short and medium/thick hair...

If you have short and medium to thick hair (this includes those who have fine hair strands but a lot of them) you should opt for:

Naturally, those with short hair will have to put in a bit more work in order to have their extensions blend in naturally than say, someone with long hair who is simply looking for volume over length. A big misconception a lot of our short-haired customers have is that they can simply clip in their Luxies straight out of the box and it will look natural. While some ladies can pull this off, we typically have to remind our short-haired customers that they will have to put in a bit of work to ensure their extensions look as natural as possible.

How, you ask? We'll share a few of our tips and tricks that have worked best for many of our short-haired customers.

If you're a visual learner, check out Milana's video below where she shows how to clip in, trim and layer her 220g Ash Blonde Luxy Hair extensions which she's had custom-toned to match her hair color perfectly.

            • Trim and/or layer your extensions. While it may seem like a waste to cut off hair that you've purchased, it is so important to achieving that natural flow so it's not obvious where your real hair ends and the extensions begin. We also recommend to have the extensions cut by an experienced hair stylist while the set is in your hair. It will also be helpful for you to number the wefts so you know exactly which weft goes where.
            • Pick the right color of hair extensions. Well, obviously! Ok, ok – the reason we have this point in here is mostly for the ladies out there who are rocking an ombre or balayage trend. If you have multiple different shades in your hair, it's best to opt for a color that matches the ends of your hair. Even if you have a darker root color, majority of the wefts will be applied at the crown of your head. • Curl your extensions into your hair. This is a great hack. Taking small sections of your extensions and combining them with a section from your own hair and curling them together will help blur that line differentiating your hair from the extensions. Here we have a great selection of tutorials on different techniques of curling your hair and extensions.
          • How do I choose between the 120g, 160g, 180g, and 220g set?

When choosing your ideal Luxy weight, it's important to opt for a set that best matches your hair type, and not necessarily the type of hair you want to have. Also, keep in mind if you have lots of hair strands or short hair will also need to consider a heavier weight.

Some common misconceptions we often come across with customers that can sometimes lead to a wrong set being purchased is:

            • "I have thin hair and I want really thick hair, so I should opt for the 220 gram set, right?"
            • "I have thick hair and I want more length than volume – is 120 grams good for me?"
            • "I have short thin hair – is 120 grams good for me?"
            • "I have thin hair with lots of hair strands – is 120 grams good for me?"

The answer is no to all four and we'll explain why below.

            120 Gram Classic Set

            About

Our 120 gram Classic set is our thinnest set and is ideal for fine and fragile hair types.

Set shown in photo: 120g Jet Black Classic Luxies

This is an ideal set for you if

            • You have a small amount of hair and
            • Your hair strands are fine and
            • Your hair is below shoulder length (medium to long hair) and
            • You are looking to add some volume and length

You may be able to tell from above that the key word here is "and". The reason why we emphasize this is because if you fit all of the above points, our 120 gram Classic set is ideal for you. If, for example, you have fine hair strands but a lot of them, you will need to consider a heavier weight. Or, if you have above shoulder length (short) hair, you will also need to consider a heavier weight.

            160 Gram Classic Set

            About

Our 160 gram Classic set is a medium-thickness set and is ideal for thin to average hair types.

But wait, didn't you say that the 120 gram set was ideal for thin hair types? Good catch—we'll be happy to explain why shortly.

In the meantime, this set comes with a total of 10 wefts, which is one more four clip weft than our 120 gram set. The difference in each set is not only the extra weft, but also that there is more hair attached to each weft. The hair strand thickness itself will remain the same.

            Our 160 gram set includes the following 10 wefts: 1 x 8" weft, 1 x 7" weft, 2 x 6" wefts, 2 x 4"wefts, 4 x 1" wefts, as shown in the image below.

Set shown in photo: 160g Ash Brown Classic Luxies

This is an ideal set for you if you have

            Average Hair

            • You have an average amount of hair
              • If you have thin hair strands but a lot of them, this set is recommended
            • You want extra length and volume while still maintaining a natural look

            Thin Hair

            • If you have thin and short hair, this set is recommended
              • Short hair = above shoulder length up to chin length
              • Why? Because you will need the extra hair and wefts to achieve a natural transition where your real hair ends and the extensions begin. If you choose a set that is too thin for your hair, the ends will look stringy and unnatural

The photo below is of our beautiful customer, Abii Carter, who has naturally short and fine hair and who chose our 160g Ash Blonde set to create the perfect blend to her short hair.

            180 Gram Seamless Set

            About

Our 180 gram Seamless set is an additional option for those who are considering our 160 gram Classic set. Our Seamless set is a medium-thickness set and is ideal for thin to average hair types.

Similar to our 160-gram Luxies, this set comes with a total of 10 wefts, but has more hair attached to each weft making the full set slightly thicker than the 160-gram Classic set. The following 10 wefts are included: 1 x 8" weft, 1 x 7" weft, 2 x 6" wefts, 2 x 4"wefts, 4 x 1" wefts, as shown in the image below.

So, what's the difference then? The biggest difference between our Classic and Seamless extensions is how the wefts are manufactured. Our Seamless extensions are made with a thin silicone base which is 50% thinner than our Classic fabric-stitched wefts. They will remain virtually undetectable in your hair.

              • Why? Because you will need the extra hair and wefts to achieve a natural transition where your real hair ends and the extensions begin

            220 Gram Classic Set

            About

Our 220 gram Classic set is our thickest set and is ideal for average and thick hair types.

But wait, didn't you just say before that the 160g set is best for medium hair types? Which one is it! Noted—we'll clarify this in one moment.

Similar to our 160 gram set, our 220 gram set comes with a total of 10 wefts. As a reminder, this is the same number of wefts as our 160 gram set, and one more four clip weft than our 120 gram set.

The difference between this set and our 160 gram set is that our 220 gram set will have more hair attached to each 10 wefts making it thicker and fuller. The hair strand thickness itself will remain the same.

            Our 220 gram set includes the following 10 wefts: 1 x 8" weft, 1 x 7" weft, 2 x 6" wefts, 2 x 4"wefts, 4 x 1" wefts, as shown in the image below.

This is an ideal set for you if you have

            Average Hair

            • You have average hair but want an extra voluminous look (or at the least want the option—you can wear the full set for lots of volume or take out a few of the wefts for a more natural look)

            Thick Hair

            • You have a lot of hair
            • You have thick hair and want length
            • Again, it is important to match the set to your hair type. Even if you aren't necessarily looking to add more volume to your already thick hair, choosing a set that is too thin will result in an unnatural blend with stringy and thin ends.

            Short Hair

            • You have a lob or a blunt haircut
            • You have shoulder length or shorter hair that is medium/thick
            • As before, the reason for this is to ensure that there is enough hair and wefts to create the seamless transition from where your short hair ends to where the extensions begin.

          • Are Seamless hair extensions water resistant?

Yes, seamless extensions are water resistant. If your set is coming in contact with water for a long period of time (for example, during wash) it is best to let the hair soak in water for no longer than 20-30 seconds. This is because over time, water may seep into the base cavities where the hair comes from, which can make it difficult to dry out because silicone is not as breathable as having a fabric base.

          • Do Seamless hair extensions shed less than Classic hair extensions?

Luxy Hair clip-in extensions, classic or seamless, rarely experience shedding. While the base of our seamless sets is thinner, they do not shed any more because of this.

The type of care that is put into your extensions will affect how much it sheds. With proper care, shedding will be virtually non-existent. You can minimize shedding by maintaining your Luxies and gently brushing them with your Loop Brush before and after each use. It won’t cause pulling, snagging, or damage to your wefts.

To learn how to properly brush hair extensions, please watch the helpful tutorial we created below.

          • What temperature can Seamless hair extensions be styled at? Does heat damage the base of the wefts?

When styling your seamless extensions with high heat, we recommend setting your tool at 120C/250F degrees or lower. Anything higher may run the risk of damaging the hair, as with any other clip-in extensions. This is because the hair is not being revitalized at the scalp like our own hair is, and over time excessive heat and high temperatures may cause wear and tear to your set, and could potentially loosen the silicone bond with the hair. Generally speaking, heat will not damage the base of the weft unless it is very high.

One of the best thing about our extensions? They don’t need to be styled at a high heat temperature any way to see results. Our extensions will curl and straighten with ease using low heat.

          • Are there any special care instructions for Seamless hair extensions?

Just like any set of clip-in extensions (seamless or regular), we advise you to care for your Luxies with love. Watch the video below for our top tips on how to care for your extensions to ensure they live a long and happy life.

With your seamless set, we recommend to be more gentle while handling the clips because they are stitched onto the silicone base directly. We advise against pulling or pressing the clips with strong force, as it may eventually cause damage to your set.

As with our regular sets, seamless hair extensions can be washed using warm water and shampoo and conditioner.

          • Where does the hair come from?

All of our hair is sourced and manufactured in China. We source our hair straight from verified distributors, who depend on their long-standing reputation for ethical sourcing and quality hair.

We only choose to work with companies where workers are satisfied and happy to be apart of the team. Luxy facilities employ working age staff (mostly middle age women and men) who get a proper salary, normal working hours, weekends off, and holiday leave.

Also, all of our hair is donated, sold, or exchanged fairly. For example, some of our hair is obtained from temples, where hair is a form of donation and a source of revenue for the monastery/ temple for its own expenses and projects. Therefore, it's a from of meritorious deed for the donor, same as donating money or food. We also obtain our hair from many hair salons, who choose to sell their hair instead of throwing it away into the waste stream.
